Critically Endangered Black Rhino Orphan Rescued
In an area adjacent to the iconic Kruger National Park, WeWild Africa stepped in to assist in the rescue of an orphaned black rhino calf. The calf’s mother tragically fell victim to poaching, having been shot, leaving the young rhino vulnerable and alone.
WeWild Africa quickly mobilized to provide a helicopter for the calf’s capture and safe translocation. This intervention is part of our broader commitment to safeguarding wildlife that strays from the protected boundaries of Kruger Park. These animals, when wandering into neighboring areas, face the fatal risks of being hit by vehicles on the roads or being shot.
Our team has been instrumental in providing emergency helicopter support services, crucial in moving animals back to safety. This rapid response capability has been a lifeline for approximately 300 animals, ranging from rhinos to elephants and buffaloes. Nighttime poses a significant risk for both animals and people, with incidents of vehicles colliding with wildlife.
Without our intervention, many of these animals would not make it. Our ability to provide emergency services at a moment’s notice has been a game-changer in the region. We are committed to every animal’s life.
Thank you to our partners DCM Surfaces and Hope for Wildlife Helicopter Services for your continued collaboration.
