Another First for Elephant Conservation: Translocating family groups from Tembe Elephant Park

Tembe elephants are known for their incredible tusks. Over the years, we have relocated tens of elephants across South Africa to spread these special genetics far and wide. Today, we highlight another successful elephant relocation to the renowned Phinda Private Game Reserve.

WeWild Africa’s veteran conservationists ensured the relocation was fully funded as well as coordinated the complicated logistics, permits, and field operations. This was the first time that a family group of elephants had ever been captured and translocated from the Tembe Elephant Park. Yet another first for conservation proudly implemented by WeWild Africa, in partnership with Conservation Solutions.

The collaboration brought together various stakeholders, including Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, the Tembe Community, Conservation Solutions, Zuka Private Game Reserve, Heligistix, and NEWF – Nature Environment & Wildlife Filmmakers. Thank you to all that supported and participated! A special thank you to the continued involvement of DCM Surfaces, which highlights the growing importance of the private sector’s support in wildlife conservation efforts.

Each successful relocation enriches our experience and expertise, positioning WeWild Africa at the forefront of global wildlife conservation. Our team’s commitment to learning, adapting, and building knowledge ensures the safe and effective relocation of every animal in Africa.
