Welcome to the 2024 WeWild Africa Annual Report. Guided by our three pillars of Wildlife Rescue, Animal Rewilding, and Landscape Restoration, this report reflects on the milestones, challenges, and partnerships that shaped our year. We began 2024 by helping to complete the world’s largest vulture translocation, relocating 163 Cape and African White-backed vultures across 1,042 km without a single loss. Throughout the year, we supported projects of various scales, from aiding the breeding of black-footed cats and rescuing and rewilding bush babies to advancing habitat recovery in Loskop Dam Nature Reserve with infrastructure investments and assisting in international cheetah translocations. 2024 marked the inaugural year of our partnership with African Parks, during which we contributed to three major white rhino translocations as part of the continent-wide effort to rewild 2,000 rhinos over the next decade. This Annual Report celebrates our achievements in 2024, honors the projects and people behind them, and looks forward to the next chapter of our journey.
Conservation in Africa needs immediate action and real solutions which will stand the test of time. This often requires innovative thinking and breaking down barriers. I believe that WeWild Africa has achieved significant results by not taking ‘no’ for an answer and by actively finding solutions to various conservation challenges in Southern Africa.
I am proud of what we achieved in 2024, from the largest vulture translocation ever undertaken to implementing the first-ever elephant capture and translocation in the Addo Elephant National Park, and not to mention signing the historic 25-year agreement with the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency.
We can not do this work in isolation, and I am thankful for our teams on the ground and for every single one of our partners and collaborators for empowering our organisation to play the critical role that it does in Africa. We are incredibly excited about what 2025 holds!
